A Letter From Our President
Over the last two years I have had so many people ask me why I started this organization. I have thought long and hard about how to tell this story. I wanted to be careful not to alienate any one who would be interested in helping or financially supporting our efforts. But the last year has proven to me even more why it is important to tell you the motivation behind this organization.
As I reached my middle life, I had been extremely successful in the business world, was happily married to a wonderful man, and was living my dream of country life. But I was still searching for my "Gift" to the world, my reason for being.
I took several classes at my church, discussed my dilemma with close friends, my husband and my father, but couldn’t come up with an answer. Then I started praying about what God"s plan was for my life. Why had He created me to be part of His world? God did answer me, many times. I didn’t listen.
One day when I was driving on Hwy 243, out of frustration I said to God, "What do you want me to do? Are you sure that you want me to do something to help animals? After all, aren’t there a lot of people in the world that are suffering?" At that very moment a cat ran in front of my car and narrowly missed being hit, And God said, "I made all things and all things are mine."
From that very moment God has been with this organization. Sure there are times when we don’t listen and He has to hit us upside the head, but we can see His work in KCAAP everyday:
- Recruiting dedicated Board members, and even more loyal hard-working volunteers and financial donors,
- Locating experienced high-volume and pediatric spay/neuter veterinarians who are committed to our cause,
- Finding us the perfect location for our new clinic at a price we could afford
- Helping us find outside funding through foundations and charities of over $300,000 to build and purchase equipment for a state of the art facility,
- Limiting the number of complications after surgeries,
- In the last three years, awarding over $200,000 in grants from the Texas Animal Friendly Fund and other foundations for free spay/neuter surgeries for people on public assistance, those that own multiple pets, and feral cats,
- Expanding our service area from Kaufman County throughout Van Zandt, Henderson, Rockwall, Dallas, Marion, Navarro, Ellis, Wood, Smith, Cherokee, Rains and Harrison Counties.
Though things have not been perfect, I just say to God, this is your idea and you need to open the hearts of others. He tells me to be patient, "That blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear." Matt 13:16.
