Welcome to KCAAP's Website!
We have performed 18,696 spay/neuter surgeries to date.
Kaufman County Animal Awareness Project (KCAAP) is a volunteer 501(c) 3 nonprofit corporation formed in Nov 2003 to eliminate the needless death and suffering of companion animals in Texas. Currently hundreds of thousands of animals in Texas are killed each year in Texas shelters. Many are shot by land owners trying to protect their livestock from abandoned dogs. Hundreds more are dumped and killed along our highways.
Our Purpose
To build relationships and educate the citizens of Kaufman County and surrounding areas on how to become a truly “humane society”
To provide low-cost spay and neuter solutions to the general public
To educate the public about responsible pet ownership
To work with legislators on the creation of laws to protect animals
To coordinate with the Texas Department of Health on rabies vaccinations and public health issues
To increase adoptions through the current city shelters and other humane organizations
We have many caring residents who take in these strays, but they lack the funds and needed education to become responsible pet owners. We are educating residents on local community laws and offering free and low-cost spay/neuter solutions and lessons in responsible pet ownership.
In October 2005 we opened our new regional spay/neuter clinic located in Crandall, Texas. Along with giving us a stronger presence in the community and a place for children to come for education, a stationary clinic has allowed us to serve more people and pets in need. We now offer surgeries four days per week, performing over 450 surgeries per month.
The Critter Cruiser (our transport service) has started pickups in Mesquite, Canton, Marshall, Garland, Waxahachie, Mineola, Van, and Corsicana, and will add pickups in surrounding areas as needed. We are hoping that with our reduced rates, available grants and convenient pickup locations, many residents who have been unable or unwilling to sterilize their pets will do so. The only way to end the overpopulation and needless killing is to reduce the number of unwanted animals.
Grants for SPAY/NEUTERING OF A CAT OR DOG are available to residents who need them. All applicants must be a resident of Texas. A copy of proof of residency (drivers license, photo ID, utility bill, etc.) must be included with the appropriate application.
Available PROGRAMS are:
DISADVANTAGED RESIDENT
Requires some type of government assistance program. Examples include CHIP, WIC, Medicare, Medicade, Unemployment, public housing, etc. Proof of such government assistance is required.
MULTIPLE PET OWNER
Requires that the owner bring three or more animals from the same household for surgery on the same day. The owner will be responsible for the cost of the first two surgeries, and all additional surgeries will be covered under the grant. The covered surgeries must be performed on the same day in order to qualify. If the owner needs assistance in paying for the first two surgeries, they should inquire about additional grant opportunities.
FERAL CAT
Requires that the cat be feral, trapped and then brought to the clinic. Friendly neighborhood cats or your owned cats do not qualify.
DOGS OVER 45 LBS
Requires that the dog weigh over 45 lbs at the time of surgery. The owner is asked to make a small co-pay toward the cost of the surgery if they are able to do so.
These grants do not pay for surgeries on shelter, rescue, or breeder's animals. Special discounts are available for shelter and rescue groups. Please call the clinic for details.
